Mattresses for the Loma

On August 30, 2008, Gustav, a category 4 hurricane launched out towards Pinar del Rio and the Youth island, in the west of Cuba. It causes there very important damages.

On September 8, 2008 is with the turn of Hike to devastate the island while skirting the country from east to west. The Est of the island has been more heavily touched, but the hurricane still came to Pinar del Rio, with very large rains and terrible floods.

By looking at the video and the pictures, you will realize the damage in this area.  Thousands of trees have been uprooted, harvests have been lost. Many roofs flew away, the most precarious houses collapsed. A lot of inhabitants are living with neighbors or in inns.

This is why we launch the operation « colchones para la loma »

The Loma is a modest district near to Vinales. 80% of the families there have lost at least a part of their roof.

The mattresses, made of wadding, wool or straw did not resist to the bad weather.
We want to replace them.

How to participate?

• By making us gift of mattress in good state. Contact us, we will forward them to them.
• It will be probably more economic and ecological to buy mattresses in a close country. You can contribute to it by a transfer on the account 001-5693307-65 with the mention “mattress for the loma”. We are presently studying the possibility to by them in a closer country (Panama).
• By proposing us your ideas or services.
